More Football

Can't help it.. it's world cup season and football is just all over my head. And it begins with Roy Keane's retirement story. Strange that I first read about it from my favorite arsenal website, http://www.arsenalnewsreview.co.uk

Myles Palmer may be hyperbolic and biased at times, but he has such an interesting writing style that I look up to the man in a way. And he being an Arsenal fan is never shy in admitting that Arsene Wenger is clueless when it comes to tactical move and he is more than happy to praise Wayne Rooney's surreal skill.

He quoted this very interesing paragraph from Keane's autobiography, recalling the Man Utd defeat against Leverkusen in CL.

"Afterwards in the dressing room I looked around. It wasn't hurting some of them enough. Laurent was sitting there gutted.I felt sorry for Seba.Cost £28 million, became the scapegoat for our season. Some of the others were getting away with murder.Blame Seba. Too easy. Wrong. Glory, believing the publicity, has cost us.Rolex watches, garages full of cars, fucking mansions, set up for life, forgot about the game, lost the hunger that got you the Rolex, the cars, the mansion."

And to sum it up, I can't really think of any other expression better than to follow Myles'. "Thanks for everything, Roy. Especially the passion."

Indeed the Keane-Vieira battle is always a classic.

Talking about midfielders.. oh Rosicky, that boy certainly looks good. Can only wish that he is not a Baros, who can only perform well in major tournament. The Czech are so far, in my opinion, the best team and deserve their ranking in FIFA probably. But they have even worst striker crisis than England do and this could be their undoing. Their midfield is highly creative and dangerous on attack but they don't have enough ball winner and some players are too old there so that can also be their undoing.

All big teams are winning so far with Brazil and France yet to play. No upset so far. But I was upset upon seeing how the Japanese missed chance after chance. Sigh.. And the Nakamura goal should have been disallowed anyway. Kawaguchi's weakness was exposed as he went to catch a ball from set piece. He almost always concede when he comes off his line yet he never change. I always like Tim Cahill and the moment he came on I knew they would win. So Hiddink has again proven that Hiddink factor works. Well done to the Aussie.

Too Wild at Heart?

Here.. is an essay written against John Eldgredge's controversial book, Wild At Heart. The essay is quite heavy on theology, but it certainly worths reading to balance ourselves if we were to read Eldredge's book. I believe Wild at Heart is one of the best books I have ever read but all the same, I always felt that it is also one of the most dangerous ones. John Eldredge is one of those blessed with talent to come up with words so powerful you will nod your head in agreement without digesting them, most of the times. And that's why I love the book so much. But I suppose Eldredge is only human. He, like many other servants of God, has the tendency to swing towards the extreme of his own belief that sometimes, they (or we) fall into this trap of 'creating God in our own image'. I believe that the essay in itself has flaws and my own opinion, definitely, also has flaws. Geez I am not even a Theologist. But ultimately, none of us has that complete wisdom to understand G

Ichi Rittoru no Namida

As Aya's condition gradually worsen, she could no longer walk or stand anymore. She would sometimes choke when she eat and she struggled to speak. There was only one thing that she could do, albeit which much difficulty. She could still write. One day her mum visited her at the hospital and seeing her struggling hard to write her diary, her mum asked her to rest. But she said.. "Okaasan.. you said that I can still write right? That's the only thing that I could still do. I have to write what I have in mind now because that is the only prove that I am living today." Even when she could hardly hold her crayon, she would still write her diary. I do not know whether the movie followed the true diary content but in the movie.. Despite the diary began with her questioning why she had to be the one to suffer from this cruel disease, it sweetly ended with a word: "Arigatou". Thanking her parents and siblings for being there right to the end, thanking her friends for
