gr8er things

Merdeka!!!

Let's start with that hah.
Our independence day. 67 years of history as one nation.

I came across this book by one of Sukarno's daughters on Soeharto's premeditated coup de tat. The infamous 'truth' of G30S PKI.
The 60s. I imagine it must have been such a dangerous era to grow up in.
And yet.. it was such a happening era.

And then we had the relatively stabler 70s and 80s. My fond memory of this era are those Indonesian movies which always have some of these things:
- scene of cars circling Bunderan HI
- protagonists with sunglasses and nice white shoes (dan sisir yg muncul sedikit dr saku belakang celana)
- in case of horror movies.. one word: Suzanna. She was simply the Queen of Horror. And I loved watching her movies late night alone while studying.
- and of course... Warkop DKI!! Believe it or not.. they meant a lot to my memories of my childhood haa.

90s.. It started well. We had news of gulf war bla bla bla but our country seemed to be progressing well under the leadership of then idolised Bapak Pembangunan. We all know how the era ended.
it was the moment I came closest to be part of our country's version of American civil war.

My dear country.. it has been a long journey. We had it all.
Wars, heroes, bloodshed, betrayals, glories, love, hatred..
What we are still pursuing, is something we thought we had 67 years ago.
True freedom.

Everyone has their own version of freedom.
Some people think it has to do with the domination of certain races.
Some think it has to do with the politicians.
Some think.. it has to do with practice of religious faith.

But I pray that my nation shall know the truth,
and the truth shall set her free, and free indeed.

With all my heart I believe, greater things are yet to be done and to come in this nation.
I love you Indonesia.

si mahasiswa NTU yg bunuh diri itu denger2 namanya david. sigh.. mgkn final year presssure was too much to him. jadi inget masa2 kerjain final year project, tinggal 3 bulan dan gua maseh blank. untung ngga masuk berita ky dia. life is a funny thing. well since there is a chance that this may not be a simple suicide, lets not assume so. maybe there's a truth behind this. duh.. jd inget kalo di conan trus dia bilank, "ini bukan bunuh diri.. ini adalah kasus pembunuhan!" jadi serasa mao jadi detektip -_-

Father

I am reading the book "Wild at Heart". One of the most striking points that the author made was that of how many, if not almost all, men are most severely wounded by their own father. You would have thought that your dad will be the one who believes in you when everyone else is doubting you. You expect him to do so. Coz when he does, you know that it ain't matter even if the rest are against you. So when it turns out that he is siding with those who doubt you. It hurts the most. It kills off your hope. It strips you off your courage and belief to be a real man. Because the man who is suppose to show you how to be a real man, the one whose approval matters the most.. does not side with you. He loves you.. yes. But a father's role is not simply to love and nurture. He is more than just that. He is your assurance, stronghold, strength. He leads you into adventure, he fights with you side by side, he shows you how to rescue a beauty. When your father of flesh and blood ca...
