For a 2 hours and 45 mins movie, Australia was engaging enough to keep myself interested, without being absorbed.
Good casts, nice sceneries, and interesting characters.
The main issue was not love between Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman.
The main issue was the Aborigin. Race. Difference. Respect.
The message is this:
you do not overcome racial differences by 'assimilating' the different cultures.
when you practice 'assimilation', the dominating race will inevitably push it to the minority to accept their culture.
and it won't work.
you overcome the difference by acknowledging that indeed..
we are different.
there is no need to pretend that 'we are all the same'.
we are not.
and because we are not.. we should learn not to force others to accept our ideas.
we learn to respect them.
but humans are proven to be slow to accept this.
the Australian government only made their official apology to the Aborigin in 2008.
and that's only the government.. what about the people?
and what about our own country?
our national ideology begins with this: belief in one and only God.
sounds good.. except for the fact that this country has many religions that worship different god(s). and i am not sure if the follower of 'religion a' would agree if you tell her that her god and the god of 'religion b' is one.
so whose god is the 'one and only god'?
see.. that's why our ideology does not really work, that's why we have people who want to abolish the ideology.
if only we all come to agree that we are different.
our belief is different.
and respect that difference.
