Let us think

A: Jesus loves you. He died for u.
B: Did He die for my dad too?
A: Of course He did!
B: But my dad doesn't believe in Him.
A: Just pray for him.. God will open his heart.
B: But my dad died two days ago.
A: ...
B: Can he go to heaven?
A: ...

What will your reply be if you were A?

Yes? No? Dunno?

There are dozens of other scenario where we come across complex issue of Christianity. Even on salvation alone, there can be so many tough questions even the most brilliant theologists find difficult to answer.

And besides that, there is also issue of Holy Spirit, speaking in tongue, prophecy, trinity, rapture, etc.

But we.. the 'charismatic' Christians, tend to either avoid these issues or we simply subscribe to whatever our Pastor tells us.

One of my Tung Ling friends, in commenting on "Apologetics", said:
"I dunno. Thinking is not for me. I can do the talking. Not the thinking"

in church like ours, such 'complex issues' are deemed unimportant. What's important is to have 'relationship' with God, and to have impacts on our community.
Both of which.. I agree is of utmost importance.

But.. here's my issue.

With the emergence of facebook and twitter nowadays, I get to learn what people believe in, what they find to be inspirational, and to be the 'truth'.. so much so that we would 'retweet' or 'like' these thoughts posted by someone.

And I feel that.. we have been so easy on doing all these that..
we don't really ask ourselves for a moment: "Is this the TRUTH?"

As long as it sounds good, it's right.

being charismatic people, we tend to say God "wants" this, He "says" this..
but.. really? Do we know for sure that He wants or says certain thing?

Or... are we putting the words on God's mouth?

Well.. I am not here to judge this preacher or that doctrine.
I don't think it's Christ-like either to condemn or criticize certain pastors or preachers publicly on youtube, facebook etc.
In truth, I believe it's more Pharisee-like rather than Christ-like.

What I am trying to say is simply this..
If we mean it when we say we want to have relationship with God,
then.. let's get to know Him in SPIRIT and in TRUTH.
and if we love him, we love him not just with our heart, but also our minds.

Don't let the devils deceive us. Let us think.

John Stott, one of the finest Reformed Theologist of all age, suggested annihilation theology, which means...hell is a state where you dissapeared and not tortured. For that thought he was mocked as liberal theologist by some.

To us, it's just mean that theology is not as simple as we think and we cannot easily judge other, like the way we were taught during our youth days

Father

I am reading the book "Wild at Heart". One of the most striking points that the author made was that of how many, if not almost all, men are most severely wounded by their own father. You would have thought that your dad will be the one who believes in you when everyone else is doubting you. You expect him to do so. Coz when he does, you know that it ain't matter even if the rest are against you. So when it turns out that he is siding with those who doubt you. It hurts the most. It kills off your hope. It strips you off your courage and belief to be a real man. Because the man who is suppose to show you how to be a real man, the one whose approval matters the most.. does not side with you. He loves you.. yes. But a father's role is not simply to love and nurture. He is more than just that. He is your assurance, stronghold, strength. He leads you into adventure, he fights with you side by side, he shows you how to rescue a beauty. When your father of flesh and blood ca...

journal: a little update

wow I am actually back to this blog. between Apr 27 2018 and now.. what has happened? I officially proposed to my girlfriend (wah.. trust me you gonna miss that word), got married, and.. became a dad. yeah.. all in a matter of less than 2 years. now when you consider the fact that in 2015 I would not have the slightest idea how things would turn out, it just goes to show how life changes in a blink. How is married life? Well.. I am one of those who has pretty pragmatic view when it comes to marriage. I have seen enough to know that relationship is messy. So.. I must say marriage has been way way better than my expectation hah.. For example.. I knew that my wife is a smart woman. I knew some of her shortcoming too.. (and there are some I didn't know till we got married, of course) BUT... here's the big bonus. I didn't know she can be that adorably funny in her own way. Not funny like a standup comedian funny but.. you know.. she makes me laugh. Trust me....
