Haven't watch too many movies lately. Watched The Last King of Scotland sometimes ago.. the movie was good and tense but overall.. you could conclude that all the troubles that the main character got into was caused by his interest in someone else's wife. You don't go to Uganda to bed the president's wife. Silly.
Then this Monday, Cath got free tics (heh thankss cath) and asked me to join her and Edwin and Elsa for a french movie, Paris Je t'aime. The movie got into Guiness Book of Record, earning the title of the movie with most directors. It was the combined work of around 20 directors. There were 18 short love stories in the movie, and they are not related the way "Love Actually" does. They are independent.
So you must be asking.. how could such movie be good? You are jumping from one story to another. Most stories don't have conclusion and some stories don't have much meaning.
But I was thinking.. this is a great concept.
Why do we need two hours to tell a love story? Jerry Mcguire was a long movie and yet.. most of us probably only remember that "you complete me" and "you had me at hello" scene.
It's all about "the moment".
And why do we need to conclude the story? Leave it there and let the audience imagine the ending.
Sometimes.. as I saw the crowds in the MRT station, people coming and going.. I would ponder, "these people, they must have some interesting love stories to tell.. " If only we could ask them to tell us their stories. If only we could make a movie out of it. The compilation of Singaporean's love stories.
So I liked Paris Je t'aime for its concept.
