I still remember one of the movies we watched during my english course days,
Hmm.. in fact a couple of them left quite a strong impression, for some reasons.
those classics such as 'my fair lady' and 'hamlet', and that rather long movie about the Jewish family on exile (forgot the title), they were all memorable.
and there is another one which truly inspired me, gandhi.
the movie was my first encounter with this outstanding character.
and today, i happened to saw this movie entitled 'gandhi, my father'.
i never knew about Harilal Gandhi before. only today did i find out that gandhi's eldest son, Harilal, was such an interesting character.
he was said to be an enigmatic man who assisted his father in their resistance movement.
but he eventually clashed with his great father, severed all ties with his family, and went on a self-destruct journey on his own.
but he went to gandhi's funeral, though no one noticed him in such a messed up state. such was the result of his self-destruct.
he also converted to Muslim, though eventually, reverted to Hindu.
very very interesting, i must say.
Harilal Gandhi passed away six months after Mahatma was assasinated.
i dunno what went thru Harilal's mind,
and i am quite motivated now to go and find a credible book on his life,
but somehow i am convinced that..
despite his rebellious way, and everything that he did,
he must have loved his father very, very, much..
and just like his father,
he must have loved his country very, very, much.
looking at people like Harilal, Chairil Anwar, and Gie..
i somehow feel the connectivity, kindred spirit stuff, i suppose.
