Ranting

A very good article written by an Indonesian I think, on the publication of Playboy in Indonesia::

And this is what Tiara Lestari, the first Indonesian model to ever appear on Playboy's cover, thought::
http://tiaralestari.blogspot.com/2006/01/playboy-in-indonesia.html

This is hypocrisy at its best, my country that is. So what if Playboy manage to publish their Indonesian version? With porn vcds sold here and there, and Internet invading our youngsters freely, a Playboy mag which will feature no nudity, as they (Playboy) have promised, pales in comparison. Why spend money buying a Playboy mag which is probably only slightly better than Popular mag? So you see, the dangers of pornography is definitely not coming from the toothless Playboy. It is coming from the illegal porn vcds sellers who the authorithy decide to ignore. And it is coming from the Internet which we can do nothing about. And the TV and MTV. So what can we do to stop them distributing this poison? Nothing!

The only thing we can do is to teach the youngsters to be responsible with their life. By blaming all the mags and TVs and the people wearing sexy dresses and kissing in public, you are just teaching the youngsters to play the blame game all their life.

For getting into drugs..
They will blame the bad school environment and bad companies.
They will blame the government too, for not guarding against drug dealers.
They wil blame their parents for not showering them with love.

For getting into free sex and pregnancy and HIV..
They will blame the media and internet.
They will blame their lovers for demanding it.
They will blame their lovers for tempting them into it.
They will blame the condoms factory workers for being careless. Yes 1 out of 6 condoms is hole-y.
Heck they will blame God for giving them sexual desire.

We are living in a wild wild world where you gotta be responsible with your decisions. What's the point of coming up with all those stupid pornography laws? Childish.

When I was a kid, the only thing we had was the unwritten rule that during the fasting month, you should not eat in front of the fasting people. I thought it was strange as fasting is about setting yourself apart and it has nothing to do with what anybody else is doing, as long as they are not forcing you into eating something.

But I accepted that as a gesture of being considerate. In fact I would teach my kids to do that. I even sincerely apologise to my fellow Muslim friends when I have to eat in front of them.

But now.. Now we have a pornography law about to be put into effect. Among the proposed regulation were the disallowing of kissing in public and showing sensual part of your body in public. I hope by public they don't mean a place, any place, where there are lots of strangers. Coz that won't do for swimming pool.

So we are about to create a society where everybody will behave like saints in public while waiting anxiously for the time to return home for their daily dose of 'sin'. Where do you think all these teenagers lost their virginity? In the middle of the streets? And when the kids talk about porn, do you think they are talking about anything they could see and enjoy in public?

This law will only encourage people to always have two faces; The face of saint when they are socializing in public and the face of devil when they are all alone. And when things go wrong, what will they do? They will blame the law to be not strict enough in protecting them from the temptation.

Father

I am reading the book "Wild at Heart". One of the most striking points that the author made was that of how many, if not almost all, men are most severely wounded by their own father. You would have thought that your dad will be the one who believes in you when everyone else is doubting you. You expect him to do so. Coz when he does, you know that it ain't matter even if the rest are against you. So when it turns out that he is siding with those who doubt you. It hurts the most. It kills off your hope. It strips you off your courage and belief to be a real man. Because the man who is suppose to show you how to be a real man, the one whose approval matters the most.. does not side with you. He loves you.. yes. But a father's role is not simply to love and nurture. He is more than just that. He is your assurance, stronghold, strength. He leads you into adventure, he fights with you side by side, he shows you how to rescue a beauty. When your father of flesh and blood ca...

journal: a little update

wow I am actually back to this blog. between Apr 27 2018 and now.. what has happened? I officially proposed to my girlfriend (wah.. trust me you gonna miss that word), got married, and.. became a dad. yeah.. all in a matter of less than 2 years. now when you consider the fact that in 2015 I would not have the slightest idea how things would turn out, it just goes to show how life changes in a blink. How is married life? Well.. I am one of those who has pretty pragmatic view when it comes to marriage. I have seen enough to know that relationship is messy. So.. I must say marriage has been way way better than my expectation hah.. For example.. I knew that my wife is a smart woman. I knew some of her shortcoming too.. (and there are some I didn't know till we got married, of course) BUT... here's the big bonus. I didn't know she can be that adorably funny in her own way. Not funny like a standup comedian funny but.. you know.. she makes me laugh. Trust me....
